A hotel bed is judged every night by a new guest, made up every day and washed far more often than a bed at home. Bedding that lasts for years in a household can quickly lose its shape in a commercial laundry – and the one room with a flat pillow is exactly the room a guest remembers.
HMG makes duvets, pillows, toppers and protectors for hotels and contract customers (hospitality services), in the same factory and on the same fully automatic lines as for retail. This article covers what to look for in hotel bedding, and what belongs in your briefing.
Made for professional laundering
A commercial laundry washes differently from a household: often hotter, with professional detergents, and it dries in large tumble dryers. What counts then is a filling that recovers its loft after hot washing and drying (usually synthetic fibre), a densely woven ticking that keeps the fibre in, strong seams and a finish that stays put, and a quilting pattern that holds the filling in place so it does not drift into the corners.
How many washes an article has to withstand depends on your laundry and your use. That is why, in the briefing, we ask about:
- your laundry’s programme: temperature, detergent and drying method;
- how often the pillows and duvets themselves are washed, beside the pillowcases and covers;
- whether the bedding is your own or runs through a linen rental service;
- requirements of your chain or market, for example on fire safety in the contract sector.
We record those requirements in the article’s specification. You can test trial pieces in your own rooms and your own laundry first.
The same in every room
Guests compare: this stay with the last one, one hotel in a chain with the next. Hotel bedding is therefore about one fixed specification, order after order. With us, that starts with an approved reference sample. Every pillow and every duvet is filled and weighed automatically, quality control is built into every production step, and every batch is traceable. So a repeat order a year later turns out the same as the first delivery.
Comfort by choice: the pillow menu
Not every guest sleeps on the same pillow. Many hotels therefore put one standard pillow on every bed and offer a small choice on request: a pillow menu. A practical menu stays small, so housekeeping can manage it:
- The standard pillow: synthetic fibre, medium, washable hot – which also makes it the safe choice for guests with a house dust mite allergy.
- Firm and high, for side sleepers.
- Soft and low, for stomach sleepers.
- Memory foam, for guests who want firm, even support.
- Natural filling, for suites and the upper segment.
Give each type a recognisable label, so housekeeping can tell them apart. Which filling suits which sleeper is explained in which pillow filling suits your customer. For duvets, one all-year duvet is usually enough, with a lighter version for warm rooms or summer.

Hygiene: protectors under the cover
Mattress and pillow protectors are the simplest hygiene measure in a hotel bed. They catch moisture, stains and skin flakes before these reach the mattress or the pillow, and they are far easier to wash than the mattress itself – so they also extend the life of what lies beneath. A mattress topper adds an extra comfort layer without replacing the mattress. You will find toppers and protectors in our range.
Plan a rotation stock
Count on more than one set of protectors per bed: while one set is in the wash, the other is already on the bed. General guidance per product is in use and care; for your hotel we align it with your laundry’s programme.
Sizes, beds and replenishment
A hotel rarely has a single bed size. Single beds, double beds, twin beds made up separately or as one, extra-long beds for tall guests: each needs the right duvet and pillow size. In Germany and Scandinavia a double bed often gets two single duvets, which also keeps twin beds flexible. The common sizes per market are in the size guide; other sizes we make to specification.

Your hotel brand on the label
For hotel groups we make bedding under their own name: your brand on the woven label, the same specification in all your hotels, in the sizes of each country (private label). Some hotels also sell the pillow or duvet from their rooms to their guests; that calls for retail packaging, with an insert card and care instructions. If you want a natural, high-value product under an established brand, there is our own brand Mont Blanc.
Tell us about your hotel or chain: the number of rooms, the bed sizes, your laundry and the comfort options you want to offer. We will make a proposal, with trial pieces for your rooms.
